A “Participant” is a party that has formally applied to PayNet and been accepted to participate in Retail Payment Services. Once accepted, the Participant agrees to observe and comply with PayNet Participation Rules.

Key points to understand:

• Being a merchant or service user does not automatically make you a Direct Participant.
• Direct Participants are entities that have completed an application process and received formal acceptance by PayNet.
• Typically, Direct Participants include banks, merchant acquirers, and approved e-money issuers that interface directly with PayNet’s payment infrastructure.
• Merchants generally access PayNet services through these Direct Participants.
