How does Cross-Border QR Payment benefit local merchants and payer?
Merchants enjoy faster and more convenient payment collections, improved
reconciliation, reduced foreign currency handling risks, and access
to a wider base of international customers. Local e-wallet and mobile
banking app user on the other hand are now able to pay like local
in foreign countries without the need for card payment or cash.
What currency do merchants receive payments in and for local payer to make payments?
Payments are credited to merchants’ accounts in the local currency
(Malaysian Ringgit), regardless of the foreign payer’s currency.
On the other hand, local payers paying in foreign countries are able
to pay directly from their Malaysia account with competitive FX rate
provided by each Malaysia mobile banking app and e-wallet.
How do merchants and payer get started with Cross-Border QR Payments?
Merchants need to have an active DuitNow QR acceptance setup through
their acquiring bank or payment service provider. Once enabled, they
automatically accept cross-border QR payments. For local payers who
are paying to foreign merchant QR, please ensure your preferred mobile
banking app / e-wallet providers have enabled DuitNow QR scan &
pay.
Will merchants and payer be notified of payments?
Yes, merchants and payer receive instant notifications upon successful
payment completion.
Are there any fees for customers using Cross-Border QR Payments?
Typically there are no fees incurred for making payments, but currency
conversion fees may apply depending on their home bank or app.
How fast are Cross-Border QR Payments processed?
Payments are processed in real time, providing immediate confirmation
to both merchants and customers.
